Karen Khachanov v Jeremy Chardy Head to Head

This is the second meeting between both players. Khachanov won their only meeting in two tie-breaks on the hard courts of Beijing in 2019.

Khachanov Hoping To Return To Top 10

Russian Karen Khachanov looked very much the Next Gen player to watch out for in 2018 when he won the Paris Masters 1000 defeating Novak Djokovic in the final and subsequently broke into the top ten of the ATP rankings, as well as make the French Open quarter-finals in 2019.

However, it has been an inconsistent and poor last season and a half for the big Russian, as he has talked of looking to return to the top ten of the ATP rankings, amidst a host of worthy challengers.

2021 started decently for Khachanov as he made the semi-finals of the ATP 250 and lost a nail-biter in Melbourne to Jannik Sinner and looked in good touch at the Australian Open but lost three straight tiebreaks to Matteo Berrettini of Italy.

The Russian  looked in good form in Rotterdam and had two very convincing wins against Stan Wawrinka and Cameron Norrie and looked very much the player he would like to be leading Stefanos Tsitsipas in the decider, but unfortunately could not hold on to the lead and succumbed.

A disappointing loss last week to world number 287 veteran from Australia Matt Ebden in Doha would have set back his confidence, but he did well to win his second round here in Dubai against the rising in-form young Aussie Alexei Popyrin and will hope he can propel his week further for a deep run here.

Chardy Looking To Further Impressive ’21 Season Thus Far

French veteran Jeremy Chardy has had a good start to the season, making the semi-finals of both the Antalya Open and the Melbourne ATP 250, before a first round loss at the Australian Open to none other than now nine-time champion Novak Djokovic.

He continued his season at the Rotterdam ATP 500 making the quarter-finals scalping David Goffin and losing a tight match to eventual champion Andrey Rublev. An uncomfortable hamstring saw him look out of sorts last week against Dan Evans in their Doha opener, but he seems to be back in strong form so far in Dubai.

Chardy did well in his opener against Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinalos in three sets setting up a second round match against rising Aussie Alex de Minaur.  The ninth seed De Minaur looked like running away with the match winning the opening set 6-2, but Chardy fought back well to claim the next 6-3 and then get the vital break in the decider to win it 6-4 and seal a place in the third round, continuing his impressive 2021 run.

The 33-year-old Chardy has won just one singles title in his career, which came in Stuttgart in 2009.

Khachanov v Chardy Prediction and Tip

An exciting prospect of a match ahead between two players with huge forehands, when on song. Although Khachanov starts as the favorite, the surface suits Chardy and he has been in good nick this year and recovered from the hamstring niggle last week in Doha.

It will come down to the big points and who is better on the day. Expect Khachanov to sneak through in a decider.

Tip: Khachanov to win in three sets:  3/1 (bet365)
