Daria Kasatkina v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head

Their first ever meeting came on the ITF circuit which Sasnovich in 2014. In 2016, they faced off in a Fed Cup match and this time around it was Kasatkina who carved out a three-set win.

Following that there have been five matches played between these two players on the WTA circuit and Kasatkina holds a 3-2 edge over her opponent. This includes a match at the 2020 WTA Doha qualifiers where Kasatkina came back from a set down to complete a three-set win.

Kasatkina Tames Talented Tauson

Such has been Clara Tauson’s form and talent that Kasatkina had gone into her first round encounter against the Dane at odds of 1/1 to win the match. And win she did, stunning the Lyon Open champion from the previous week in straight sets but not before Tauson had put up a solid fight in the match.

In a match that lasted just shy of two hours, Kasatkina and Tauson shared 11 breaks of serve, with the Russian edging past her opponent with six of them. The second set went into a tie-breaker after Kasatkina had two chances to serve out for the match, but once there she romped home with a 7-0 scoreline.

Kasatkina entered this tournament having gotten knocked out in the first round of the WTA Dubai competition but that had come on the close heels of a title victory at the Phillip Island Trophy, the third of her career. The question is if she can follow that up with another punchy performance in this competition.

Sasnovich Struggling to Make it Past Round Two

Sasnovich had finished the last season with a quarterfinal appearance at the Linz Open, having won at least two matches in four of the six tournaments she participated in following the pandemic break. This year has been quite different.

The world number 97 from Belarus has struggled to get going, losing in the second round of four of the five tournaments she has played in and in the opening round of the fifth. Even in her opener here against Anna Bogdan, things didn’t look too rosy for a while before she came back from a set down to complete a three-set victory.

What that means is she will now not only need to get past an opponent who has been oozing form this year, but also over her own mental barrier of second round defeats in 2021. Looks like a tall order.

Kasatkina v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

Kasatkina is a heavy favourite for this one and such has been her form, we reckon she should also complete this quickly and in two sets.

Tip: Kasatkina to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
