Grigor Dimitrov v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the Bulgarian, who is 29, and the Italian teenager, 10 years his junior.

In-Form Dimitrov Looks for Another Semifinal

Although better known as a hard court specialist, as demonstrated at the Australian Open where he got to the quarter-finals, beating Dominic Thiem in straight sets along the way, Dimitrov is not out of place on clay, and reached the fourth round in Paris last October.

He began his campaign in Acapulco against the experienced French competitor Adrian Mannarino, and was leading by a set, and was two breaks up, when Mannarino was forced to retire with injury.

He began his second round match with Miomir Kecmanovic badly, dropping his opening service game to the young Serb. But he broke back immediately and forged ahead with another break. He missed the chance to serve out for the set, but then was given another opportunity next game on the Kecmanovic serve, and took it.

The second set was much more one way traffic in favour of the Bulgarian. Dimitrov broke Kecmanovic twice, was never once threatened on his own serve and brought proceedings to an end after just 87 minutes.

Musetti Going Loco in Acapulco

This is Musetti’s first appearance in a senior ATP event this year, spending his time on the junior tours, but he is certainly enjoying his time in Mexico, after coming through three rounds of qualifying just to make the main draw.

He then caused a major surprise by knocking out the number three seed, and recent winner of the Argentina Open, Diego Schwartzman, taking the first set, and, after Schwartman had levelled, having the presence of mind not to panic when he missed five match points, finally converting the sixth.

Frances Tiafoe, the world 56, presented a different sort of challenge on Wednesday, with the American taking the first set easily. Musetti gradually fought his way back into the match, and it went to a deciding set, as the points, and the games, became longer and longer.

Eventually it went to a tie-break, which Musetti eventually won. However, the match had lasted 2 hours and 40 minutes, and both men were tired after their efforts.

Dimitrov v Musetti Prediction and Tip

Musetti has had a fine run in Acapulco, proving he is no respecter of reputations, However, he has had five hard matches, and he is playing a man that, by comparison, has had a fairly easy run in the tournament so far. That should give the world number 16 the edge.

Tip: Dimitrov to win in three sets: 14/5 (bet365)
