This will be the first meeting between the World No. 7 Zverev and World No. 71 Koepfer.

Zverev In Semis After Ruud Walkover

2019 Mexican Open runner-up Alexander Zverev reached the semifinal without taking the court on Thursday after his quarterfinal opponent Casper Ruud withdrew citing a wrist injury.

The German, chasing his 14th career title, had come into the tournament on the back of a shock first-round defeat in Rotterdam. But he has looked good in Acapulco, winning his first two matches without much trouble.

Beginning the tournament against 17-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, Zverev cruised into the next round with a 6-3, 6-1 win in an hour and 25 minutes.

He carried the momentum into the Round of 16, where he beat Serbia’s Laslo Djere 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and 33 minutes.

The 2020 U.S. Open finalist, Zverev is 7-4 this year. Having won just one of his three matches at the ATP Cup, the German right-hander went on to reach the quarterfinal of the Australian Open for the second successive year before going down to eventual champion Novak Djokovic. (Last year, Zverev had reached the final four after winning his maiden quarterfinal in Melbourne.)

The defeat to Djokovic was followed by a shock first-round exit in Rotterdam earlier this month, where playing as the third seed Zverev fell to Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in straight sets.

A 22-time ATP finalist, Zverev is looking to reach his first final in 2021. He won two titles in Cologne and reached the U.S. Open and Paris Masters finals last year.

In Acapulco, the German is aiming for a first title, having finished runner-up to Nick Kyrgios in his only previous title clash two years ago.

Koepfer Into his First ATP Semifinal

Facing Zverev in the semifinal will be compatriot Dominik Koepfer, who ousted Britain’s Cameron Norrie in a closely contested quarterfinal between the two lefties on Thursday to enter the final four of an ATP event for the first time in his career.

The German needed five match points to win the one-hour-and-49-minute contest 7-5, 6-4.

Yet to drop a set in the tournament, World No. 71 Koepfer had upset the fourth seed Milos Raonic in the Round of 16, defeating the Canadian 6-4, 6-2 in just an hour and 12 minutes.

The German had begun the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Italy’s Gerardo Lopez Villasenor in the first round.

The 26-year-old, who was 2-4 in 2021 before the start of the tournament, went 7-6 in 2020, which included a run to the quarterfinals at the Rome Masters.

Alexander Zverev v Dominik Koepfer Predictions & Tips

Although Koepfer is in solid form, beating Zverev will be a huge ask. The second seed has not been troubled in his previous two matches in the tournament and will be a heavy favourite to advance to a second final in Acapulco.

Tip: Zverev to win in straight sets: 1/2 (bet365)
