Lloyd Harris v Emilio Nava Head to Head

Harris Fresh From Strong Dubai Run

24-year-old South African Lloyd Harris has been on the tour for only a couple years now, and did well to break into the top 100 of the ATP rankings as of late 2020.

The winner of 13 ITF Futures titles, Harris’s career however has really taken off in the last couple weeks, and more so as recently as last week and he is now ranked a career high world number 52 after a successful run last week in Dubai that saw his ranking catapult up 29 spots.

2021 did not get off the best of starts for Harris, but the South African started to get it it together  with a strong win two weeks ago  in Doha against Stan Wawrinka before a narrow loss to in-form Hungarian Marton Fucsovics.

Arriving in Dubai for the ATP 500 last week, he looked clinical in the qualifiers and followed it with a string of impressive wins, notably a straight set win against 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem, a convincing three set quarter-final win against Kei Nishikori and a comeback three set win against Denis Shapovalov in the semi-finals.

In the final he was up against another player having a dream run, i.e. Russia’s Aslan Karatsev and although Harris was convincingly defeated in straight sets, it was a great tournament for the South African and one that would have done wonders to his confidence and self-belief going forward.

Nava Lucky To Make Opener In Murray’s Absence

American teenager Emilio Nava has had a good run on the junior circuit being runner-up in 2019 at the Australian & US Open juniors. Nava has only played one singles match on the main circuit thus far, and that was at the Mexican Open in Acupulco in 2019.

With Andy Murray pulling out with a freak groin injury right before his opener against Harris, Nava now plays the South African and although Harris would consider him a lighter opponent than the three-time Grand Slam champion, the young American will play with nothing to lose.

Nava is currently ranked just within the top 600 in the world, but with success on the juniors and already on the main draw at such a young age, there is only upside to his career here on.

Harris v Nava Prediction and Tip

Emilio Nava will be happy to make the opening round of a Masters 1000, and that in of itself will be a big achievement for him. Harris has been in excellent touch and will consider himself lucky not to meet the wily Andy Murray in the opener. Expect a routine straight sets win for the South African.

Tip: Harris to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
