Lorenzi Still Waiting for Main Draw Win

39-year-old Lorenzi continues to grace the tennis circuit, featuring in the Challengers and trying to carve out the odd win. This season, he began with a first qualifying round exit at the Australian Open and followed it up with three appearances on the Challenger circuit.

In Istanbul, he was knocked out in the first round while in the two clay court Challenger competitions which followed, Lorenzi managed just one win between them. A 6-2, 6-0 rout at the hands of Cedrik-Marcel Stebe in the Acapulco Open qualifiers meant he had had a horrid start to the season but making it to the main draw of this competition in Miami could be the start of bit of a resurgence.

Lorenzi will now be gunning to emulate his best showing in Miami, where he has featured nine times but won a round just twice. Can he make it his third time here?

Escobedo is Another Struggler

It’s not that much of a surprise that Escobedo is a bit of a struggler himself, having fallen to outside the top 200 on the ATP charts given he has himself needed to come through as a qualifier for this event.

Escobedo is a hard court specialist, having struggled on clay, but has featured only twice in Miami – making the second round in 2017 and getting knocked out of the qualifiers the following year.

This year has been all about qualifiers and Challengers for the American. Before winning a couple of rounds in Miami to make the main draw, Escobedo failed to make it to the main draw at the Australian Open, Cordoba Open, Buenos Aires Open and even the Istanbul Challenger.

And while he now takes on a player who has himself not had too many good results go his way, Escobedo will know he would have it very tough.

Lorenzi v Escobedo Prediction and Tip

Escobedo, on account of being 15 years younger to Lorenzi and being a better player on hard court surfaces, will start off a 2/9 favourite to win this but we could see a tighter encounter than expected.

Tip: Escobedo to win AND Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/4 (bet365)
