Iga Świątek v Barbora Krejcikova Head to Head

No previous matches have been played between the 16th-ranked Swiatek and the world number 39 Krejcikova.

Świątek Hoping to Shrug off Dubai Defeat

While Swiatek has shown mastery over clay court surfaces in her career, her record on hard courts isn’t too bad either and her solidity on the surface was on display in Adelaide earlier this year.

Having been knocked out of the Australian Open in the fourth round by Simona Halep, Swiatek opted to take part in the Adelaide International where she defeated five tricky opponents to lift the trophy. Wins over Madison Brengle, Maddison Inglis, Danielle Collins, Jil Teichmann and Belinda Bencic, all of which came in straight sets were an indicator who swiftly had Swiatek improved on those courts and how easy it would be to forget she is all of 19 years in age.

When she began her WTA Dubai campaign with a straight-set drubbing of Misaki Doi, it set her nicely for a second round match against the in-form Garbine Muguruza, one that would show whether Swiatek belonged. Unfortunately for the Polish player, Muguruza was in no mood to oblige and she ripped past Swiatek 6-0, 6-4.

While that defeat would sting, Swiatek would do well to take the confidence her Adelaide win would have provided, especially starting out in this tournament against a player ranked 39th in the world.

Krejcikova Stretched by Blinkova

It was expected to be one-sided win for Krejcikova but Anna Blinkova managed to nearly upset the Czech world number 39. After having made it as far as the final in Dubai earlier this month, Krejcikova was 1/5 to win her opener but in the end she needed three sets to get past her Russian opponent.

Things looked to be going to play when Krejcikova broke her opponent twice to take a 5-0 lead in the first set before wrapping it up 6-1, and then had three break-points to break her opponent in the first game of the second set.

She missed those chances and Blinkova began to play a lot better, holding on to her serve with ease before breaking Krejcikova in the eighth game to get herself into a position to win the set. Blinkova did so off her second point, making Krejcikova almost regret her profligate nature in the second set.

Krejcikova regrouped quickly though to break her opponent in the second game of the third set, saved a break-point in the very next game and then served it out easily in the ninth game to complete a three-set victory.

Swiatek will be a different kettle of fish though.

Świątek v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

No prizes for guessing who the favourite is here, with Swiatek starting out at 1/2 to win it and we also think it would be a very straightforward victory for the Pole despite the recent form shown by her Czech opponent.

Tip: Swiatek to win in straight sets: 11/10 (bet365)
