Putintseva 6-4 This Season

There have been a couple of solid results for Putintseva this year but then again there have been matches which she would have loved to do a lot better in the end.

Take the very first competition she participated in, at the Abu Dhabi Open, where Putintseva made it to the third round and was a set up only to lose the next two 7-6, 6-4 and crash out of the tournament.

Or even the Grampians Trophy where a frustrated Putintseva had two match-points, blew them away and lost the match tie-breaker 11-9 against Victoria Azarenka.

Or even more recently at the Adelaide International where she was 1/4 favourite to win the second round match in Adelaide against Storm Sanders but fell in three sets to her.

Putintseva hasn’t played since then, having missed out on a few of the tournaments in the interim and with a first round bye here in Miami as a seeded player, she enters this match without any competitive match in over a month.

That could be bit of a factor in this match, but other than that she holds all the aces against a player ranked 95th in the world.

Qualifier Stojanovic Eases Past Watson

There wasn’t much to choose between Stojanovic and her opening round opponent, Britain’s Heather Watson but in the end, the Serb came through without any trouble. She won 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and 37 minutes to make it to the second round of the Miami Open in her first appearance at this tournament.

Stojanovic held the early aces up her sleeve when she broke her opponent twice to take a 4-0 lead in the opening set. While Watson got one of the breaks back, she was unable to level things out, allowing the Serb to serve it out in the 10th game.

The second set proved to be even more one-sided. Watson held serve in the first game but never won a game in the match again, losing six in a row to fall in straight sets to Stojanovic.

This is the fourth tournament this season which will see Stojanovic play in the second round but she has never gone beyond that. And by the looks of things, Putintseva shouldn’t allow that to change here either.

Putintseva v Stojanovic Prediction and Tip

Putintseva is 4/9 to win this and while she has been out of action for a while, we will be backing her to come through. Stojanovic might push her opponent a bit but that might not be enough.

Tip: Putintseva to win: 4/9 (bet365)
