Two Finals Already for Bublik

The 23-year-old is currently ranked 44th in the world, just one spot below his career-best and a strong run in this competition where he had made the second round in 2019, should help get past that.

One can expect him to get a few solid wins too. After all, Bublik has already made it to two tournament finals this season apart from winning a few other matches.

He started off the season with one at the Antalya Open in January where he had to retire from the title-decider against Alex de Minaur because of an injury. A couple of second round exits followed soon after that before he became a two-time finalist for the season in Singapore.

A first round bye there was followed by three successive wins before he fell to another Aussie, Alexei Popyrin in the final.

Since then, the cycle has repeated with Bublik making it as far as the second round at both, the Doha and Dubai Open only to lose to Roberto Bautista-Agut and Jannik Sinner respectively.

Can he get past Djere here to get to round three of the Miami Open for the first time ever?

Djere Scrapes Past Vesely

In a match which went to three sets and lasted an hour and 45 minutes, Serbia’s Djere got past Jiri Vesely in the first round of the Miami Open to set up his meeting with Bublik.

Djere was off the blocks quite quickly, as he broke his opponent early in the set and then again when Vesely served to stay in the set in the ninth game. The second set went off without too many incidents but just as Djere was looking for a possible tie-breaker, he lost his serve to love in the 11th game.

Vesely served it out to push the match into the third set, but the Serb then quashed any chances of a comeback win for his opponent by breaking him twice in a row to take a 5-0 lead. A late hold from Vesely only pushed the match further out before Djere completed the victory.

The Serb, who has won two clay court titles, is 2-4 on hard court surfaces this season and against an opponent who is relishing his time these days, could find it difficult to repeat the dose from the first round.

Bublik v Djere Prediction and Tip

Bublik is a far better player on hard court surfaces than Djere and should not just win it but do that easily. Straight-set win anticipated for Bublik.

Tip: Bublik to win in straight sets: 11/10 (bet365)
