Karen Khachanov v Jannik Sinner Head to Head

There have been two matches previously played between Khachanov and Sinner and the scoreline is 1-1 on their head to head.

Their first meeting came at the US Open last season with Khachanov winning a five-set first round match there. Sinner levelled things out at the Great Ocean Road Open semifinal earlier this year just prior to the Australian Open where he won a very tough three-setter en route his title win at that competition.

Khachanov Aiming for Best-Ever Showing

Khachanov, who has never made it past the third round at the Miami Masters, will now be gunning to record his best ever performance at this competition when he takes on his Italian opponent in this encounter. And he’s got here after getting a first round as a seeded player followed by a 6-3, 6-2 drubbing of Yannick Hanfmann in his second round bout.

The 22nd-ranked Russian was barely tested in the entire match, and despite getting broken once in each set, never looked like he was ever in a danger of falling away. The first set saw Khachanov break Hanfmann in the fourth and sixth game and while he dropped his own service while serving for the set, he soon converted his second set-point to go 1-0 up.

An early break of serve for Khachanov was negated by Hanfmann in the very next game of the second set but when the Russian broke once again there was no looking back. Khachanov sealed the deal with another break of serve in the seventh game before he served it out to make it past his opponent as the clock stuck an hour and 11 minutes.

Now comes Khachanov’s real test, against a player who has given him a lot of trouble in the recent past.

Sinner Improving Every Competition

Having won the Sofia Open late last year, Sinner added a second title earlier this season at the Great Ocean Road Open with a win over Khachanov in the semifinal punctuating the victory.

Since then, an opening loss at both, the Australian Open and the Montpellier Open have obviously been an issue, but he has recovered quickly to make it as far as the quarterfinal at the Marseille Open and ATP Dubai.

Having never played in Miami before this, whatever points he earns here will go into his points tally, and there’s every chance he could break into the top 25 if he can win a couple of more rounds here on.

After a first round bye, Sinner had gone on to cruise past Hugo Gaston in the second round, 6-2, 6-2 and given the manner in which he has performed against Khachanov, there’s no doubt he will fancy himself a shot at a place in the fourth round.

Khachanov v Sinner Prediction and Tip

It’s hardly a surprise that Khachanov (11/8) doesn’t start as a favourite despite being a slightly higher-ranked player. Given how the two matches between these players have gone so far, we could be looking at another long-ish encounter, with more than 22.5 games in it.

Tip: More than 22.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
