Alexander Bublik v James Duckworth Head to Head

This will be the first time that the World No. 44 Bublik will meet the 104th-ranked Duckworth.

Bublik Eases Past Djere

No. 32 seed Alexander Bublik ousted Serbia’s Laslo Djere in straight sets on Friday to reach the third round of a Master 1000 event for the first time in his career.

Having received a first round bye, Bublik needed just an hour and 25 minutes to defeat the 25-year-old Serb 6-3, 6-4.

The 23-year-old Kazakh player converted all three of his break point chances and saved four of five in the second round contest.

The Russian-born Bublik, who is 6-0 in Challenger finals, is yet to win a final at the ATP level, having reached that far on four occasions. Two of those occasions were this year, in Antalya and Singapore, where he lost to Aussies Alex de Minaur and Alexei Popyrin, respectively.

In Antalya, it was an injury that forced Bublik to retire after just two games in the final, while in Singapore it was Popyrin who rallied from a set down to claim the title.

Bublik had reached two finals in 2019 as well, finishing runner-up to John Isner in Newport and Pablo Carreno Busta in Chengdu.

Ranked 44th in the world, Bublik, who ousted World No. 10 Matteo Berrettini en route to Antalya final, had knocked out World No. 7 Alexander Zverev in the first round of the Rotterdam Open earlier this month.

Duckworth Upsets Goffin

Facing Bublik on Sunday will be unseeded Australian James Duckworth, who caused a big upset on Friday, knocking out eighth seed David Goffin in straight sets.

The World No. 104 needed just an hour and 17 minutes to defeat the Montpellier champion 6-3, 6-1.

The 29-year-old Aussie didn’t face a single break point in the match, while he capitalized on four of the seven opportunities to conquer the Belgian’s serve.

Duckworth had earlier defeated qualifier Mischa Zverev in a tough three-set first round contest. The Australian player had needed two hours and 13 minutes to beat the German 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

The win over Goffin improved Duckworth to 5-3 this year. Last year, he had reached his first ATP semifinal in Pune, and peaked to a career-high ranking of 71.

This year, he reached the Round of 16 at Melbourne-2 and defeated Damir Dzhumur in the first round of the Australian Open before going down to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Round of 64.

Bublik v Duckworth Prediction and Tip

The straight sets rout of David Goffin will give Duckworth a lot of confidence. He had never won back-to-back matches at a Masters 1000 tournament or at the Grand Slams. It will be interesting to see if he can topple another seeded player on Sunday. Bublik, however, will be tough to beat. He has been in good form this season and will be the favourite to advance to the Round of 16.

Tip: Bublik to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
