Mihaela Buzarnescu v Harmony Tan Head to Head

.The pair have never played each other before.  This will be the first match between the Romanian and her French opponent.

Buzarnescu Trying to Regain Former Pre-Eminence

As a junior, Buzarnescu won the doubles at the US Open, and, three years ago, she broke into the world’s top 20, , the same year she reached the fourth round at the French Open and the third round in Wimbledon. The Romanian was also a quarter-finalist in the doubles at both events that year.

That was very much a high water mark of her career, and it has been a steady drift down the rankings since then.

Now 32, 2021 has not been a successful year for her so far. After qualifying for the Australian Open, she was beaten by Bianca Andreescu in the first round in Melbourne, although she did take a set off the Canadian.

She lost in the first round in Lyon, but then did manage to overcome Coco Vandeweghe in Guadalajara, before she was defeated by Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic.

Buzarnescu did manage to come through two qualifying matches to make the main draw in Miami, but was then defeated by another French player in the shape of Caroline Garcia.

Tan, a French Qualifier

Born in France but of Chinese-Vietnamese heritage, Tan makes periodic appearances on the senior WTA tour, mainly when she gets a wildcard, but spends most of her time on the ITF tour where she has featured in 15 finals in a mix of clay and hard court events.

She has won seven of them, most recently on home soil in January at Andrezieux-Boutheon.

Tan did gain entry to the WTA tournament in Lyon via a wildcard last month, but was beaten in the first round by the world 71, Paula Badosa Gibert, although she did take the Spaniard to three sets.

She came through two rounds of qualifying to make the main draw in Bogota. Beating first Yana Sizikova of Russia, and then Dalila Jakupovic of Slovenia.

Buzarnescu v Tan Prediction & Tip

Buzarnescu has all the experience on her side of the net, and should have too much know-how for the qualifier who makes rare appearances in the main draw of senior WTA tournaments.

Tip: Buzarnescu to win: 10/11 (bet365)
