Norbert Gombos v Federico Delbonis Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before.  This will be the first match between the Slovak and the Argentine.

Gombos, the Slovak number one, was in poor form coming into this event, but had the good fortune to be drawn in the first round against a man in equally bad form in the shape of another Argentine, Juan-Ignacio Londero.

The first set was scrappy, indicative of the lack of form of the pair of them, and it eventually went toa  tie-break which Londero won, courtesy of the fact that he dropped his serve less often.

The match though was stood on its head in the second as Gombos took control breaking three times to level the match.

One further break of serve in the third was enough for him to end his losing streak, which had seen him come into this tournament on the back of four successive defeats.

Clay Court Specialist Delbonis Goes Past RCB

Delbonis came into this tournament in reasonably good form on his preferred surface of clay, having played in three events on the South American swing.

On home soil in Argentina, he reached the second round stage in both Cordoba and Buenos Aires, and then moved to Santiago in Chile, where he reached the semi-finals before losing to compatriot Facundo Bagnis.

However, he was then beaten by Jordan Thompson of Australia in the first round in Miami.

He enjoyed a good win over local man Roberto Carballes-Baena in the first round ion Monday, The first set was keenly contested, but the odd break was enough for the Argentine to claim it, He then took complete control of the match and only dropped one more game on his way to victory.

Gombos v Delbonis Prediction and Tip

Playing on his favourite surface, Delbonis must start as the favourite against a man who has not been in good form so far in 2021, and is the lower ranked player.
