Gombos, the Slovak number one, was in poor form coming into this event, but had the good fortune to be drawn in the first round against a man in equally bad form in the shape of another Argentine, Juan-Ignacio Londero.

The first set was scrappy, indicative of the lack of form of the pair of them, and it eventually went toa  tie-break which Londero won, courtesy of the fact that he dropped his serve less often.

The match though was stood on its head in the second as Gombos took control breaking three times to level the match.

One further break of serve in the third was enough for him to end his losing streak, which had seen him come into this tournament on the back of four successive defeats.

Gombos v Delbonis Prediction and Tip

Playing on his favourite surface, Delbonis must start as the favourite against a man who has not been in good form so far in 2021, and is the lower ranked player.
