Tamara Zidansek v Sara Errani Head to Head

Zidansek and Errani have never played each other before this in a competitive encounter.

Zidansek Continues Easy Run

After a straightforward first round win over Anna Kalinskaya, Zidansek made it two in two when she waltzed past Italian Giulia Gatto-Monticone in the second round of the competition. She won 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 12 minutes to enter the quarterfinal.

Zidansek was off to a flier as she broke Gatto-Monticone twice in a span of the first three service games, and while she dropped her serve immediately after that, another break soon after helped her seal the first set.

In the second, the story repeated in a similar when as Zidansek was up an early break and then made it 5-2 with a second break of serve in the seventh game. She then dropped her serve once, only to break back and finish off the match.

Her real test comes now, in the quarterfinal, with Zidansek having last won a last-eight encounter in 2019 in Bol where she went on to win the title. The challenge, however, comes in the form of an experienced clay-courter who, in her comeback trail, would be baying for blood.

Errani Continues to Prosper

Her true test came in the first round when Errani was drawn to face Sara Sorribes Tormo, a player in form and one who has done well on clay as well. That Errani managed to take her Spaniard opponent down in straight sets – albeit with a bit of a fight – showed what the Italian was still capable of.

Which is what was on display in her second round match against Aliona Bolsova as well, as Errani dumped Aliona Bolsova who was bit of a favourite going into their second round match.

Errani won 6-4, 6-4, needing an hour and 37 minutes to make it to the quarterfinal.

In a match filled with breaks of serves, what was a bit bizarre to see is how Errani was broken five times but then proceeded to break her opponent on seven occasions – of the seven break-points she got!

What Errani will need is some bit of better serving but what she might lack in that could be made up in her feisty, never-say-die attitude.

Zidansek v Errani Prediction and Tip

Zidansek starts off at 3/4 to win this while Errani is 1/1 to cause her third surprise of the tournament. And given how Errani has dished out her performances so far, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see the Italian win again.

Tip: Errani to win: 1/1 (bet365)
