In the whole of 2020, Tan managed to win just one main draw match on the WTA circuit, and that too in a WTA $125k competition in Prague.
Other than that, her struggles on even the ITF circuit made it doubly difficult for her, which is also why when she made it to the final of French ITF tournament in January and went on to win it, it came out as bit of a surprise.
The bigger surprise has been her showing here at the WTA Bogota. Qualifying for the event with back to back wins, she has now won three matches in a row in straight sets. Tan crushed Mihaela Buzarnescu in the first round, overcame Daniela Seguel in the second before getting past the in-form player Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino in the last eight.
She will now hope to make it to her first ever WTA final, less than three years after having made her WTA debut at the 2018 US Open.

Serrano Wheels Past Voegele
If Tan has surprised a few with her solid display, Serrano’s form has been second to none and the manner in which she had dispatched the likes of Sachia Vickery and Tereza Martincova coming into her quarterfinals made her a firm favourite against Stefanie Voegele.
And that’s how the match went as well. Serrano did need two hours to overcome Voegele, but in the end, she won the big points, and carved out a straight-set victory.
In the first set, it was Serrano’s break in the second game that proved to be a crucial one as that was followed by four successive breaks shared by the two players. At 5-3, Serrani served for the set to love to clinch the lead.
The second saw a pair of breaks in the third and the fourth games, and then again in the seventh and eighth, but when a long, 11th game fell in favour of Serrano following nine deuces and five break-points, she served out for the match to march into the last four.
