Djokovic Clinical Against Sinner

World number one Novak Djokovic is playing his first tournament of the year since the successful run Down Under. Winning both his matches at the ATP Cup, it was another successful Aussie Open for the Serb with him winning his ninth Melbourne slam and 18th major title, dispatching off an in-form Daniil Medvedev in the final clinically.

Djokovic returns to the clay with his second French Open title in sight as well as Grand Slam #19, with the biggest challenge of them all being none other than  Rafa Nadal. After a first round bye here at Monte Carlo, Djokovic was up against rising Italian sensation Jannik Sinner in what promised to be an exciting encounter.

The winner of two Monte Carlo titles, Djokovic was off the blocks in a hurry and never really let the Italian settle down, breaking early to go up 5-2 and although he was broken back, easily served out the set 6-4. The second set was one-way traffic again with the Serb getting the early break and there was no looking back after, with him closing out 6-2 and easing into the next round, looking sharp with a long clay season ahead.

Confident Evans Win Against Hurkacz

Britain’s number one ranked player Dan Evans has had a fairly decent run in recent times and is currently ranked a career high world number 28. Ranked outside the top 500 in the world and referred to as the Bad Boy of British tennis a few years ago, it has been an impressive and positive second wind for Evans.

2021 was off to a good start for him, winning the ATP 250 in Melbourne defeating the likes of Borna Coric and Felix Auger-Aliassime en route. It was a disappointing Aussie Open that followed, with a opening round loss to countryman Cameron Norrie somewhat surprisingly.

With early round losses at Doha, Dubai and Miami, the season has looked less impressive for the Briton and he played his first match on clay here since 2017. However,  after a hard fought opener against Dusan Lajovic, it was a clinical win against Maimi Open winner Hurbert Hurkacz by Evans dropping only five games.

Although the next match will be an uphill task, his confidence will be high after a win of this nature.

Djokovic v Evans Prediction and Tip

Dan Evans has been in good form in the last couple seasons, but playing Novak Djokovic is a whole different challenged. Expect the Serb to win in straight sets.

Tip:Djokovic to win in straight sets: 1/4 (bet365)
