Alexander Bublik v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between both players on the tour.

In Midst Of Promising Season, Bublik Starts Clay Challenge

The 23-year-old charismatic Alexander Bublik is yet to win a title on the tour, but has reached four finals, two of which were early this year.  Beginning the year in Antalya, Bublik won four matches on the trot to reach the final. However, an injury forced him to withdraw from the title clash after just two games in the match, handing Alex Di Minaur his fourth career title.

The Kazakh reached his second final of the year in Singapore in February, but remained title-less after going down to Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in a three-set final. Despite pulling off an impressive win against Alexander Zverev in Rotterdam, it was an early departure for Bublik and so was the case in Doha and Dubai, including a three-set loss to Jannik Sinner after wining the first set 6-2.

Bublik looked good at the Miami Masters  and put up a strong showing in the fourth round against American Taylor Fritz to come back after losing the first set and pulling off a win to put him in the final eight.  However, he ran into Jannik Sinner again who was on a run of sorts and prevailed in straight sets.

The Kazakh played doubles last week at the Andalucia Open to get accustomed to the slower surfaces and begins his singles campaign here in Barcelona, fully aware that he will need to work harder here given his game, but comes with all the self-belief and talent to put up a good performance

Fokina To Be A Force On Clay

The 21-year-old Spaniard, who suffered an injury during his first match of the year at a challenger event in France, withdrew from the Australian Open, but came back later to reach the last eight in Montpellier, his first ATP event this year, which included a win against now Miami Open Masters 1000 champion Hubert Hurkacz.

The World No. 51 competed in his second ATP event of the year in Rotterdam, knocking out compatriot and fifth seed Roberto Bautista Agut in the Round of 32, before falling to Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics in the next round, and although he did not meet with much success at Marseille or Dubai, he notched up another good win against Radu Albot in Dubai.

Although a surprise disappointing early loss at the Andalusia Open clay last week to Ilya Ivashka felt against the run of events, the Spaniard will be raring to go with the clay season in full swing and look to further his results on the surface.

Yet to reach a final on the Tour, Davidovich Fokina has shown good form since the tour resumed after a lockdown due to the coronavirus last year, reaching the fourth round of the U.S. Open, semifinals in Cologne-1 and quarterfinals in Cologne-2, before ending the year with a run to the Round of 16 at the Paris Masters.

Bublik v Fokina Prediction and Tip

A first time match between two rising players here promises excitement and anticipation. While Bublik has been in good form on the faster hard courts, Fokina is more suited to the slower clay and will start as the favorite here. While the charismatic and talented Bublik can pull anything out of his hat and should not be discounted, Fokina should prevail in a tight three-setter.

Tip: Fokina to win in three sets: 10/3 (bet365)
