Roberto Bautista Agut v Pablo Andujar Head to Head

The first time ever these two had met, the match had come on the Futures circuit and Andujar had won that encounter in the qualifiers of that competition. However, since then, in the three times they have played each other including one at an exhibition competition last season, Bautista Agut has won them all.

This includes a meeting at the 2018 Barcelona Open which came in the third round and Bautista Agut registered a 6-4, 6-1 win.

Bautista Agut Solid in 2021

After a dismal previous season, Bautista Agut has come back punching in 2021 and while he is still waiting for his first title for the year, the Spaniard has done well so far.

After three defeats from his first four matches, the signs were all there for a repeat of last year, but Bautista Agut turned things around with a finals appearance at the Montpellier Open. And while he lost to David Goffin in that match, he doubled it up with another such showing in Doha.

At Doha, in fact, he took down Reily Opelka in his opener and followed it up with victories over Alexander Bublik, Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev.

A semifinal appearance at the Miami Masters was then followed by a third round entry in Monte-Carlo last week where he went down fighting to Rublev, the eventual finalist at that tournament.

So while Bautista Agut’s record on clay isn’t as stellar as it is on other surfaces – only one of his nine titles have come on clay – he will have the confidence needed to start here.

Andujar Struggles Past Simon

A heavy favourite against a player who hasn’t done much on clay, Andujar needed three sets to get past Gilles Simon and settle into his second round berth. In a match lasting two hours and eight minutes, Andujar won 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to advance to the next round.

The Spaniard broke his opponent six times in the entire match, having got himself 14 opportunities to do so while he himself dropped all the four break-points he had got in the encounter.

The first set was a breeze for Andujar who had come into the match on the back of three successive defeats, but in the second he lost his serve at 3-4 and allowed Simon to serve out the set.

A string of five breaks in a row got Andujar a chance to serve out the match at 5-3 and he did that to love to make it further.

Bautista Agut v Andujar Prediction and Tip

Bautista Agut is 1/7 to win this and 4/9 for a straight-set victory. Andujar is a scrappy performer and while we are backing Bautista Agut to win this we could see a bit of a fight as well.

Tip: Bautista Agut to win AND Over 18.5 games in the match: 1/1 (bet365)
