David Goffin v Cameron Norrie Head to Head
Goffin and Norrie have never met each other on the ATP tour in the past and this would be their first ever encounter on the men’s circuit.
Goffin Looking to Continue His Fine Form on Clay
Undoubtedly, Goffin feels at home, whenever he is exhibiting his trade on clay and why not, the Belgian is a great hustler on the slower courts. Indeed, he thrives on the surface as he has the weapons to beat the best players in the world, especially on the red dirt.
While, the 30-year-old Goffin has a powerful forehand, his backhand is also quite solid. Besides, his backhand and forehand, the Rocourt native have a penchant for playing with the patience levels of his opponents. Goffin, who doesn’t commit too many uncharacteristic errors, is always looking to force his rivals in making mistakes on the court.
Goffin’s 2021 season has been a little topsy-turvy as he has failed to put up great results on a consistent basis. In fact, he has tasted some success on the hard courts, capturing the title in Montpellier with a close three set victory over Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in February.
After his heroics in Montpellier, Goffin suffered a string of early losses before his superb run in Monte Carlo, where he reached the quarterfinals after accomplishing three great wins in a row.
Goffin opened his Barcelona campaign with an excellent 6-2, 6-4 win over Pierre-Hughes Herbert of France and he will be eager to continue his good form in his next few matches in the competition.
Norrie Aiming for a Deep Run in Barcelona
Goffin’s challenger for a place in the Barcelona quarterfinals in the World No. 58 Cameron Norrie, a left-hander, who is known for his unorthodox playing style.
The Brit, who didn’t play a single match on clay in 2021 before his arrival in Spain, launched his campaign in Catalonia with a 6-1, 6-2 mauling of Salvatore Caruso of France in the first round.
In the second round, Norrie was equally impressive as he was up against the 12th seeded Karen Khachanov of Russia, who put him under tremendous pressure throughout the contest.
Norrie did make an excellent start in the match as he won the opening set, but the Russian quickly found his range to claim the second set. In the final set, Norrie eventually gained the upper hand by breaking the Khachanov serve, just in time to earn a much deserved three set triumph.
Goffin v Norrie Prediction and Tip
Goffin is an overwhelming favourite, but there have been a few chinks in his armour of late, which should keep Norrie interested in this contest.
Moreover, the Belgian will have to deal with the unorthodox game of the Brit, and it won’t be an easy task, considering Norrie is a master at exposing, even small weaknesses of his adversaries.
Tip: Goffin to win: 4/11 (bet365)
