Belinda Bencic v Kristina Mladenovic Head to Head

After having made it to third round at the Australian Open and finishing as a finalist in Adelaide, Bencic has shown signs of struggles in more recent times. The Swiss player has won just three of her next eight matches, signalling a sudden and surprising loss of form.
Two of these defeats have come on clay, from the three matches she played on that surface.
It started with an opening loss in Charleston at the hands of Paula Badosa and then a defeat to Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round in Stuttgart. And this follows the only match Bencic had played on clay last year where she lost to Danka Kovinic in the second round in Rome.
A semifinalist here in Madrid the last time the tournament was played, Bencic will hope to turn things around for the season at the same venue again.

Mladenovic Qualifies with Surprise Win
A third round at Australian Open, and a quarterfinal in Lyon have been the two performances to remember for Mladenovic. Other than that, however, her performances have shown a general downward trend for the year.
A win in Dubai and one at Charleston is all that she had under her belt coming into this but Mladenovic looks to have done well to make it to the main draw of this event. Especially in her second qualifying round win over Anastasia Potapova, whom she beat 6-4, 6-2 to enter round one.
A former French Open quarterfinalist, Mladenovic will now hope she can turn things around as she looks to stall her falling ranking – the former world number 10 is now 55th in the world.
Against a player herself struggling for form recently, Mladenovic might fancy a chance.
