Nikoloz Basilashvili v Benoit Paire Head to Head

Paire has a commanding 3-1 lead in head-to-head, but his last win came in 2017. Remarkably, all four meetings between the pair have been outside the red dirt.

Basilashvili Eyes Another Deep Run

At the time of writing, Nikoloz Basilashvili is set to appear in his second tour-level final of 2021 at the BMW Open. The Georgian, a champion in the first quarter of the season in Doha, has swung the form pendulum in quite dramatic fashion.

Six months ago, Basilashvili was estranged from victory. He suffered nine straight losses since his last match win which came in Davis Cup rubber early March. To compound his misery, a case of domestic abuse on his ex-wife was also made public.

But things have since gone from awry to awesome on the tennis court, with Georgian rediscovering the winning touch. His success in Qatar included wins over Roger Federer and Roberto Bautista Agut.

There is a distinct possibility of Basilashvili winning his third title on German soil (won Hamburg Open twice) when he jets to Madrid.

Paire Seeks Second Win of 2021

At this rate, it won’t be long before Benoit Paire breaks one of tennis’ longstanding records – the longest losing streak by an ATP player.

That record belongs to former player Vincent Spadea of the USA, who lost 21 straight matches over 20 years ago.

Paire’s winless run now stands at 7, and he has been shamelessly tanking tennis matches throughout the year. There have been consequences, but not sanctions from the governing bodies.

The bearded Frenchman has been banned from representing his country at the Tokyo Olympics, and racket manufacturer Babolat have issued a statement of their disapproval of Paire’s behavior on the court.

Paire who has been ranked as high as No. 18 in the world previously, has won one match all year. He has made public of his views of the tennis bubbles at each event. The lack of fans as he mentions, has sucked the life off him and compared the court to a cemetery.

Given his record over his first-round opponent in Madrid, could the Frenchman master just his second win in front of an audience?

Basilashvili v Paire Prediction and Tip

It is hard to see how Benoit Paire will win the match regardless of his winning record against Basilashvili. The Frenchman’s matches are determined by headspace and right now his motivation is questionable. Basilashvili is hitting form at the right time, expect to roll into the second round.
