Taylor Fritz v Albert Ramos-Vinolas Head to Head

Ramos Vinolas has lost both of his previous two meetings against the big serving Taylor Fritz. But those matches were played on the hard courts of Los Cabos and the Australian Open. This will be their first meeting on clay.

Ramos Vinolas Fresh From A Productive Week in Estoril

Since losing in the first round of the Australian Open to Taylor Fritz in early February, Ramos Vinolas has only played in one non-clay tournament (Dubai Championships).

And unsurprisingly, the left-hander has picked up only one win on hard courts all year (at the Murray River Open).

The Spaniard had a largely successful Golden Swing in South America even though he failed to win his third career ATP tour title. Ramos Vinolas made the finals in Cordoba and the semifinal in Buenos Aires – losing both times to the Cerundolo brothers.

The 33-year-old maintained his decent spell of good form on the dirt in Europe, where he made the last four in Marbella before pushing Andrey Rublev in Barcelona. This week in Estoril, Ramos Vinolas demonstrated his durability and clay-court prowess by outlasting some serial veterans to reach the championship match.

At the time of writing the Spanish World No. 46 is locked in a third set battle against Cameron Norrie in the final of Estoril.

Fritz Looks For Positives Ahead of Madrid

In just his second main draw appearance at the Madrid Masters, Taylor Fritz will be looking to extend his unblemished winning record against his opponent Albert Ramos Vinolas whom he beat en route to the third round of the Australian Open.

With two wins under his belt in current clay season, the lanky American is in good shape to make an imprint on the game’s most demanding surface.

Historically, this stage of the season is the least favourite for the big servers, due to the slow conditions and balls travelling without any velocity off a stroke. Fritz, though, has adjusted to this scenario and the high altitude in Spain’s capital should play in his hands.

The 23-year-old hit double digit match wins with victory over Aljaz Bedene in Sardinia – a tournament that saw him reach the semi-finals before losing to eventual champion Lorenzo Sonego.

Fritz v Ramos-Vinolas Prediction and Tip

Ramos Vinolas has picked up an astounding 15 match wins on clay excluding the Estoril final. Naturally, he will be more adept to the court conditions and feel. But worryingly, he has played a ton of tournaments which could in part serve Fritz with an opportunity to spring an upset.

The American should be the fresher of the pair, and has the power to puncture the Spaniard’s brittle defences.
