Amanda Anisimova v Jasmine Paolini Head to Head
This will be the first match ever between Anisimova and Paolini at the highest level.
Anisimova Continues Middling Form
The good news for Anisimova has been the fact she has managed to get some matches under her belt without any fitness concerns. That, however, is whether that ends.
Unfortunately for the American, her form hasn’t quite been up to the scratch, not the kind which had seen her climb up to 21st in the world with a title under her belt in 2019.
This year, Anisimova is 5-5 on win-loss overall and 4-5 on the WTA circuit having not progressed beyond an opening round victory at any of the tournaments she has played. This includes two recent early losses in Madrid and Rome – at the former she fell to Maria Sakkari in the first round while at the latter she defeated Wang Qiang in her opener before going down to Elina Svitolina.
She starts off against a player struggling for form at the WTA level and should not have a lot of problems though.
Paolini Looking for Momentum
It did look like Paolini had made a strong start to the season when she made the third round at the Gippsland Trophy in early February but since then her form has fallen away.
In the six WTA competitions she has played since, Paolini has won just one main draw match – it came at the Monterrey Open – while failing to qualify for the Miami and Madrid Open.
So much so, she opted not to participate in the Rome qualifiers and instead featured in the Saint-Malo competition on the ITF circuit, reaching the final of that clay court competition.
Can Paolini take any confidence from there into this competition and the French Open that follows?
Anisimova v Paolini Prediction and Tip
Anisimova is our firm favourite to win this, starting out at 2/5 while Paolini is 9/5. Backing a straight-set win for the American.
