Venus Williams v Anna Karolina Schmiedlova Head to Head
Schmiedlova leads 3-1 on head to head.
Ever since losing her first match to Venus Williams in Miami in 2014, Schmiedlova has won three in a row, beating Williams at the French Open in 2014, in Monterrey in 2020 and at Roland Garros once again in 2020.
Venus Accepts Wild Card for Parma
Venus Williams comes to Parma as a wildcard with a 2-4 record in 2021.
The former World No. 1, who has a staggering 49 WTA titles, had a woeful 2020 when she won just once and lost seven singles matches. Her only win in 2020 came against Viktoria Azarenka at the Top Seed Open.
Williams, however, started off well in 2021, defeating Arantxa Rus in the first round of the Yarra Valley Classic before going down to Petra Kvitova in a closely fought two-set contest. She also won her first round match at the Australian Open, defeating Kirsten Flipkens before being outplayed by Sara Errani in the next round.
In her next two tournaments, Williams couldn’t go beyond the first rounds, falling to Zarina Diyas in Miami and Jennifer Brady in Madrid.
For Williams, winning a 50th title seems unlikely, but the seven-time Grand Slam champion will be looking to making a winning start in the tournament, however she has a tough first-round match against an opponent who has dominated their previous encounters.
Schmiedlova Eases Into the Main Draw
Slovak Republic’s Anna Karolina Schmiedlova knocked out Canada’s Rebecca Marino 6-1, 6-4 in the second round of qualifiers on Sunday to enter the main draw.
Schmiedlova had beaten Italy’s Bianca Turati 6-2, 6-2 in the first qualifying round on Saturday.
Ranked 126th in the world, the 26-year-old comes to Parma with an 8-6 record in the main draws in 2021, including the WTA 125K at St Malo in France earlier this month.
A former World No. 26, Schmiedlova is a five-time WTA finalist, winning three titles in her career. Two of those titles came on clay in Bucharest and Copa Colsanitas, Colombia in 2015 and 2018 respectively.
Schmiedlova’s best performances this year came in Mexico, as she reached the last eight in Guadalajara and Monterrey.
Venus Williams v Anna Karolina Schmiedlova Prediction and Tip
