Nadia Podoroska v Oceane Dodin Head to Head

Podoroska has won all three of their previous matches, winning a first-round clash at the U.S. Open in 2016 and the quarterfinals in Palermo and Saint-Malo in 2020.

Podoroska Edges Past Babos

Fifth seed Nadia Podoroska edged out Hungary’s Timea Babos in a three-set contest on Sunday to advance to the Round of 16 in Belgrade.

The 24-year-old Argentine needed two hours and 14 minutes to win 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Ranked 42nd in the world, Podoroska comes into the tournament after a decent showing at the Italian Open last week, where she defeated eighth seed Serena Williams in the second round on her way to the Round of 16. She was stopped from progressing into the quarterfinals by Petra Martic, who rallied to win the contest in three.

A French Open semifinalist in 2020, Podoroska came into the tournament with an 8-8 record in 2021, which included just one quarterfinal appearance at the Yarra Valley Classic.

Dodin Ousts Pliskova

Facing Podoroska in the next round will be France’s Oceane Dodin, who knocked out Czech Republic’s Kristyna Pliskova in the first round on Sunday.

The 24-year-old Frenchwoman needed just an hour and 23 minutes to win the contest 6-3, 7-5 and advance to the Round of 16.

Dodin, who has struggled to qualify for main draws of WTA events this year and has mostly featured at the ITF level, had won just one main draw match in 2021 before the win on Sunday. That win came over top seed Alize Cornet at WTA125 in Saint-Malo earlier this month.

Ranked 114th in the world, Dodin won her only title in Quebec City in 2016.
