Ana Bogdan v Sara Errani Head to Head
No previous matches have been played between Bogdan and Errani before this.
Bogdan’s Won Four Matches This Season
Having made a solid start to the season with a win in her first round match at the Yarra Valley Classic and then having defeated Anastasija Sevastova in the opener at the Phillip Island Trophy, it looked like things were finally headed Bogdan’s way.
That was after Bogdan managed to carve out just two wins the whole of the previous season.
Since then, however, Bogdan’s only main draw victories have come at the Istanbul Open where she overcame Nao Hibino and Barbora Krejcikova to make the quarterfinal.
A defeat to Veronika Kudermetova was on expected lines but those two wins had doubled her win tally count and while she fell in the opener at Madrid to Sevastova, she would take some confidence from the Istanbul results into this.
Especially given her opponent is struggling to go deep as well.
Errani’s Won Four Too
In an interesting similarity, Errani also enters this competition having won four matches this season like her opponent.
After having qualified for the Australian Open with three gruelling qualifying victories, Errani stormed into the third round with wins over Wang Qiang and Venus Williams before losing to Su-wei Hsieh.
And then out of nowhere, the Italian lost her form as she lost four in a row including three qualifying matches.
Her next two wins came at Bogota on clay but what has been doubly surprising has been her performance following that quarterfinal appearance in Colombia. Errani failed to get past Christina McHale in the opener at Charleston, lost to Ana Konjuh in Istanbul and then failed to qualify for the Rome main draw.
Can she turn things around here as she faces a player who has had her own troubles?
Bogdan v Errani Prediction and Tip
Bogdan is a favourite here at 2/5 but backing Errani to put up a fight and win at least one set given her propensity to do better on clay.
