Sara Sorribes-Tormo v Sara Errani Head to Head

The pair have met four times before, and Errani has won on each occasion. Three of those victories have come on clay, including in Colombia earlier this year, and the other was in Acapulco in 2020.

Only on one occasion has the Spaniard even won a set off the Italian.

Sorribes Tormo Enjoyed Her Hard Court Season

Sorribes Tormo enjoyed a purple patch during the hard court season earlier this year, winning the event in Guadalajara, and then reaching the semi-finals in Monterrey, and the last eight in Miami, her best ever result in a WTA 1000 event.

She has had considerably less success since switching to clay, losing in the first round in Bogota and Madrid, although she did make the second round in Rome , before she was beaten by Arnya Sabalenka.

However, Sorribes Tormo got off to winning start in Parma by beating the American Bernarda Pera reasonably easily.

The Spaniard began well by breaking the American in her opening service game and then maintained that break,  despite a  sequence of six games in which neither woman could hold their serve, both struggling to cope with the conditions.

Again Sorribes Tormo broke early in the second set, and although the American got the break back, she immediately dropped her own serve again. This time the Spaniard did not offer up any more chances and closed out the match with another break.

Errani Hoping to Emulate Her Australian Open Showing

Errani is a clay court specialist who struggles to impress on other surfaces, although she did manage to reach the third round of the Australian Open, before losing to Simona Halep.

However, she then lost her next four matches before returning to form on clay in Bogota where she got to the third round, beating Sorribes-Tormo along the way.

It was, therefore, a disappointment for het to lose in the first round in Charleston and Istanbul, and then to fail to qualify for her home  event in Rome.

Errani has, however, been given a second bite of the cherry on Italian soil, and this time, she was able to capitalise on it by beating the Romanian Ana Bogdan, in three sets, on Tuesday.

The first two sets were tightly contested – Errani edged the first which contained no fewer than seven breaks, but Bogdan then hit back and levelled the match, forcing the decider.

Errani though,  gradually seized control putting the Bogdan serve under constant pressure. She was rewarded with a break , and then  a second, easing to the win in the end.

Sara Sorribes-Tormo v Sara Errani Prediction and Tip

Sorribes Tormo may be the higher ranked player, but Errani will start the favourite because of the surface, She has a 100% record against the Spaniard and has already beaten her on clay this year which makes 2/1 quite tempting odds for her win.
