Badosa Continues to Sparkle

At the start of the 2020 season, Badosa was struggling to keep herself in the top 100 on the WTA charts. A solid showing in Istanbul and then a fourth round appearance at the French Open helped her end the season ranked 70th in the world.

This year, in February, her ranking showed a minor dip to 73rd, but ever since the clay swing has begun, Badosa’s form has refused to recede.

At Charleston she reached the semifinal but most vitally became one of the handful players to have beaten the world number one Ash Barty this year.

And then Badosa followed up her showing in Charleston with another such performance to remember in Madrid where the Spaniard stormed into the semifinal, winning all her matches with some definite ease. Her defeat in that semifinal came to Barty as well.

That sparkling form has been on display here too. She has won two rounds here, both in straight sets and is keenly looking to push on towards another semifinal. Badosa started with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Andrea Petkovic and followed it up with a 6-0, 6-4 crushing of Mihaela Buzarnescu in the second.

Can she make it three in three?

Peterson Returning after Miami

Peterson’s not played a lot of tennis since her Australian swing finished with a quarterfinal appearance at the Phillip Island Trophy.

A first round defeat in Miami about a month after that quarterfinal has been followed by another extended spell away from the sport with Peterson returning back on early in May at the Saint-Malo ITF competition.

There she had reached the quarterfinal before falling to Varvara Gracheva.

And now here in Belgrade, Peterson has returned rather well. She started off against Nina Stojanovic with a comeback win, before facing a tough challenge against Ajla Tomljanovic in the second.

Again, Peterson fell behind when she lost the opening set, levelled it out in the second and then was 2-1 ahead in the third when her opponent retired from the match.

Peterson now faces a very stiff challenge in the form of Badosa for a place in the semifinal.

Badosa v Peterson Prediction and Tip

It shouldn’t be that much of a surprise to see Badosa start off 3/10 in this one and we are backing her to win this too. Can she win this in straight sets? We think one way or the other Peterson will put up a stern one and not make it any easy for her opponent.
