Ekaterina Alexandrova v Lauren Davis Head to Head
No previous matches have been played between Alexandrova and Davis before this.
Alexandrova 3-3 on Clay This Season
For a player who has always struggled to make things count on clay, Alexandrova has continued that form forward this season too.
The Russian had won four of her nine matches on dirt last season, and just four of the 16 matches she featured in in the two years prior to that as well. Which is why quarterfinal appearance at the Stuttgart Open in what was her first clay court competition was rather good going.
Especially given those two wins there came against Karolina Muchova and Belindad Bencic.
Unfortunately for her, she didn’t make a great follow-up to that. She fell to Victoria Azarenka in the opening round in Madrid and then won and lost one match in Rome. Can she start off with a win here that will get her win-loss for the clay this year in the positive?
Davis Hasn’t Played in Over a Month
Davis’ best performance of this year came in Mexico when she reached the quarterfinal at the Guadalajara Open after having made it to the main draw as a qualifier.
Other than that, however, and on clay, Davis hasn’t gone galloping away.
Her best performance, other than at that competition in Mexico, came in Charleston where she won back to back matches – her only other instance of having done that. She followed that quarterfinal appearance in Charleston with a second round loss to Danka Kovinic at the second tournament held at the same venue.
Earlier, Davis had kick-started the season with three successive defeats in Melbourne before a change in the setting changed things around for the American.
Can she surprise her Russian opponent here as the environment changes again?
Alexandrova v Davis Prediction and Tip
Alexandrova might not be at her best on clay but she sure should see this one through against the American whose record overall has been lacklustre. Three-set win for the Russian here.
