This will be the first meeting between the 27-year-old Van Uytvanck and the 23-year-old Tan.

Four-time WTA champion Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium comes to Strasbourg with a 2-4 record in 2021.

The 27-year-old right-hander began the season by winning her first round match against Hsieh Su-wei at the Yarra Valley Classic, but lost her second round match to Garbine Muguruza.

Van Uytvanck also won her first round match at the Australian Open, scoring a come-from-behind win against Clara Burel, but failed to reach the third round, losing to Yulia Putintseva in the Round of 64.

Coming to the clay season, the Belgian failed to qualify for the Madrid Open, losing in the first qualifying round to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. She lost to the Slovak once again, this tie in the first round at Saint Malo.

Van Uytvanck, who reached the quarterfinals of the French Open in 2015, won her first title in Quebec City in 2017 and then added another by winning in Budapest in 2018. She defended her title in Budapest in 2019 and won a second of the year in Tashkent.

The experienced Belgian, who won just two matches on clay last year, will be looking for her first win on the surface this year when she plays Tan on Monday.

Tan Brings in Good Clay Form

Facing Van Uytvanck in the first round will be France’s Harmony Tan, who has displayed solid form on clay this year, reaching two semifinals.

The 23-year-old, ranked 150th in the world, is 16-6 from all competitions this season.

The right-hander reached the semifinals at WTA 125 event in Saint-Malo earlier this month, defeating higher ranked players in Yafan Wang, Arantxa Rus and Aliona Bolosova in the first three rounds before going down to Viktorija Golubic in the final four encounter.

Tan had last month reached the semifinals at the WTA 250 in Bogota. Playing as a qualifier, Tan defeated Mihaela Buzarnescu in the first round, Daniela Seguel in the Round of 16 and Lara Arruabarrena in the quarterfinals. She eventually fell to Maria Camila Osorio Serrano in the semifinal.

Tan had begun the season by winning her seventh ITF title in France.

Van Uytvanck v Tan Prediction and Tip

While Van Uytvanck is far more experienced, but hasn’t played much this year. In contrast Tan has been in good form over the last two months and will fancy her chances against the higher-ranked Belgian.
