Ekaterina Alexandrova v Barbora Krejcikova Head to Head

Alexandrova leads the head-to-head 3-0, winning their most recent meeting in the second of the 2021 Australian Open in straight sets. They have played once on clay before this and it happened in 2017 in Bucharest. The Russian ran out a 4-6 6-0 6-2 winner.

Alexandrova Too Good for Burel

Ekaterina Alexandrova eased into her second quarterfinal of this season’s clay swing with a straight-sets win over French wildcard Clara Burel.

The manner of Alexandrova’s 6-3 6-4 victory was not as straightforward as the scoreline suggests. Burel – a former junior World No. 1 – had reached the third round of Roland Garros last season. She possesses exceptional power from the back of the court and for large patches of this second-round match appeared to fight fire with fire.

Alexandrova is no slouch in the power department, with her groundstrokes able to hit through the unbreakable defenses. But Burel’s biggest weakness proved to be her lack of experience on the senior tour. She led briefly in the first set, but Alexandrova recovered and pulled away.

And in the second set, the match was certainly in Alexandrova’s racket the most she romped into a 5-1 lead. Burel made a fight back, but the Russian had built an unassailable lead.

Krejcikova Ousts Former Champion Garcia

Barbora Krejcikova overcame a slow start to beat former champion Caroline Garcia 3-6 6-2 6-1, just seven minutes shy of two hours. It was her 15th match win of the season and a second successive win over a French player after winning her opening match against Oceane Dodin albeit via retirement.

Garcia, being cheered by vocal home support for every winner she hit, took the opening set 6-3. She broke serve in the eighth game and sealed the set with a hold to 15. However, Krejcikova’s response was almost immediate in the second set.

The Czech raced into a 3-1 lead as Garcia’s gameplan began to disintegrate and broke serve at the tail end of the set again to force a decider. Krejcikova did not face a single breakpoint in the second and third sets despite facing a huge uproar from the home crowd who cheered for every unforced error.

But it seemed the pressure got to Garcia even more as the Frenchwoman played on the back foot for most of the decider. A first quarterfinal beckons for the 25-year-old World No. 38.

Alexandrova v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

Krejcikova had little success to combat Alexandrova’s controlled power in their previous three meetings. But the Czech’s game has evolved into something slightly more refining in recent months. Considering she ran Iga Swiatek very close in Rome, Krejcikova certainly has the tools to cause Alexandrova plenty of problems on Wednesday.
