Casper Ruud v Benoit Paire Head to Head

The head-to-head stands at 2-0 in favour of Noway’s Casper Ruud. The 22-year-old won both meetings on clay and in straight sets.

Ruud in the Form of His Life

Casper Ruud is widely considered the dark horse of this year’s French Open. That is a testament to his growing confidence and his rapidly improving baseline game on the clay.

Ruud is in the best form of his burgeoning career on the ATP tour. He has won 20 matches this season –  his career-best at tour level – and arrives in Paris on the back of a scintillating week in Geneva where he won his second career title.

The 22-year-old Norwegian has solidified himself as one of the ATP’s breakout stars of 2021. Ruud is ranked in 10th position in the ATP Race – a stat that measures only points garnered during the course of the current year. That clearly illustrates Ruud is playing top-10 tennis at the moment.

With three successive semifinal finishes in Monte Carlo, Munich and Madrid, the Norwegian is destined to make some serious inroads at a Slam where he has never made it past the third round.

How will the World No. 16 fare against the unpredictable Benoit Paire?

Paire Finding No Way Out of Mess

Benoit Paire keeps on losing matches, and the signs are nonexistent that he could get out of this sorry mess. Paire is 2-14 for the season –  one of the most appalling returns for a top 50 player. Over half of Paire’s 14 defeats have come in the first or second round of tournaments.

It is not that Paire is losing matches, but doing so on a consistent basis and purposefully that irks the ardent tennis fan out there. He once lost a match this term and raised his arms aloft in celebration.

But could a return home, in front of the fans spark him into life? Roland Garros could be the start of Paire’s immediate renaissance. He has won a handful of first-round matches down the years, drawing the energy from the home crowd.

Last year he was beaten in the second round by Federico Coria and in fairness, his whole stay in Paris was turbulent and tortuous. Paire was grappling with the after-effects of COVID-19 which forced him to miss last year’s US Open.

Ruud v Paire Prediction and Tip

It is hard to see anything other than a straightforward victory for the young Norwegian. Paire might pull off the odd trickshot to entertain the crowd, but that could be it as far as the Frenchman’s trail can go.

Tip: Ruud to win in straight sets: 4/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
