Fabio Fognini v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

The World No. 29 Fognini has a 2-1 head-to-head lead against the 44th-ranked Fucsovics.

The Italian won in Beijing in 2018 and at Wimbledon in 2019, while the Hungarian won in Vienna in 2018.

Fognini Eliminates Barrere

2011 French Open quarterfinalist Fabio Fognini began his 2021 campaign with a straightforward win against French wildcard Gregoire Barrere.

The 34-year-old needed just two hours and seven minutes to beat the 27-year-old Frenchman 6-4, 6-1, 6-4.

Broken twice in the contest, Fognini converted 6 of 13 break points and struck a total of 31 winners in the contest. However, he also had 52 unforced errors in the match, an area he would like to improve on in the next round.

The win improved the Italian to 13-12 in 2021 and 6-6 on clay, a surface where he has won eight of his nine career titles.

Fognini, who was part of the Italian team that finished runner-up to Russia at the ATP Cup earlier this year, reached the Round of 16 of the Australian Open for the fourth time in his career.

He also reached the quarterfinals of the Monte-Carlo Open, where he had won his only Masters 1000 title in 2019.

Knocked out in the first round at Roland Garros last year, the former World No. 9 would be happy to have safely dealt with his first-round opponent this year and now will be hoping to reach the third round for the ninth time in Paris.

Fucsovics Knocks Out Simon

Facing Fognini in the next round will be Marton Fucsovics, who knocked out France’s Gilles Simon in the first round on Sunday.

In a match that lasted three hours and 13 minutes, the Hungarian struck 38 winners on his way to a 6-4, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) win.

Fucsovics, who saved six of 10 break points in the match, had 16 break point chances and capitalised on 50% of those. The Hungarian, however, made 50 unforced errors in the match compared to the 45 made by the Frenchman.

The win improved the 29-year-old to 16-9 in 2021. The 2018 Geneva Open champion, had reached the final of the Rotterdam Open and the quarterfinals in Doha and Dubai earlier this year.

His entered the main draw in Rotterdam through the qualifiers and then defeated Reilly Opelka, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Tommy Paul and Borna Coric to reach the ATP 500 final, which he  lost to Andrey Rublev.

Rublev also beat Fucsovics in the quarterfinal in Dubai and the Round of 32 in Miami. They were to meet in the Doha quarterfinal as well, but Fucsovics had withdrawn with an injury.

Fucsovics, who is playing his fourth French Open this year, had reached the fourth round of the tournament last year, having started with a win over Daniil Medvedev in the first round. However, he was prevented from reaching the last eight by, guess who? Rublev.

Fognini v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

Although Fognini has a better record on clay this season, Fucsovics has been in great form for most parts of the season and will be looking to build on the start that he got on Sunday. Expect this to be a close contest with Fognini having a slight edge.

Tip: Fucsovics to win: 13/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
