Having missed most part of the clay court season because of a back-related injury, Azarenka did not have it very easy in her first round match against Svetlana Kuznetsova.
The former world number one was stretched to three sets and was on court for more than two hours before she managed to defeat her Russian opponent and make the second round.
In what turned out to be a set full of breaks, Azarenka edged ahead in the first with four breaks of serves to her opponent’s three. Serving to stay in the set, Kuznetsova failed to hold on to her serve at 4-5.
Azarenka fell by the wayside in the second though as her serving difficulties continued to haunt her. Broken three times in a row, she salvaged one break back but that was obviously not enough as Kuznetsova came back to level the match.
And while Azarenka showed remarkable improvement in the final to notch up a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 win, she would have to do a lot better than just 19 winners to her 34 unforced errors in this match if she needs to go the distance.

Tauson Emulates Previous Grand Slam Best
A junior Australian Open winner, Tauson won the first round match here at the French Open for the second time in her career as she overcame Ekaterine Gorgodze in straight sets.
Tauson made it to round two with a 6-4, 6-2 win in an hour and 20 minutes to set up this meeting with Azarenka.
The first set was a closely-fought affair with both players staving off break-points to take it to 4-4. At that stage, however, Tauson held on to her own serve while breaking Gorgodze, winning it off the first set-point she got.
And while Gorgodze retaliated with an early break of serve in the second, once Tauson had got herself into it, there was no looking back as she reeled off six games in a row to clinch the encounter.
Tauson will be reasonably satisfied with her showing, especially in wake of her next opponent, who hasn’t had a lot of clay court tennis under her belt.
Azarenka v Tauson Prediction and Tip
Azarenka is 1/2 to win this but we don’t see this being a straightforward one for the Belarusian and Tauson could win a set at the very least if not more.
