Camila Giorgi v Varvara Gracheva Head to Head

The two players have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Giorgi Hoping for a Good Run in Paris

Camila Giorgi kick-started her journey in the Roland Garros with a three-set win over the 2019 French Open quarterfinalist Petra Martic. The match lasted for a little over two hours and saw the Italian beat the #22 seed 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-4. While she hit 48 winners in contrast to Martic’s 19, Giorgi did commit 53 unforced errors – almost twice as many as the Croat.

Nonetheless, it was a decent performance by the unseeded player who hasn’t had that great of a time on the clay courts. Before arriving for the slam, she played in WTA Parma where she fell to Cori Gauff in the second round. Before that, she was beaten in the first round of the Italian Open.

Except for WTA Lyon where she was a quarterfinalist, Giorgi has never really managed to move past the early rounds this season.

Even her track record in the French Open is not that great – she has made it to the third round only once in all of her appearances since 2012.

She also hasn’t reached a WTA singles final since the 2019 Bronx Open.

Gracheva Crushes Arruabarrena

The 20-year-old Varvara Gracheva defeated the Spanish qualifier Lara Arruabarrena in the first round in straight sets with 6-2, 6-3. That win marks the first time that the Russian has reached the second round of the French Open.

In the preceding weeks, she has kept herself busy by featuring in all major clay events, starting with the WTA Charleston. With the exception of the WTA 125K series event in Saint-Malo, where she was a semifinalist, Gracheva lost in the early rounds in all of her other tournaments.

In her last two events in Strasbourg and Parma, she fell in the first round itself to Clara Burel and Martic respectively. In WTA Stuttgart and Madrid Open, she was beaten in the qualifying rounds itself.

It has been the same case for the World No. 88 for most of this season.

Giorgi v Gracheva Prediction and Tip

Giorgi should win this match, given her experience and a solid start in the tournament. That said, Gracheva will put up a fight and look to leverage her playing time on clay this season for a win against the Italian.
