Cori Gauff v Jennifer Brady Head to Head

The two players have found each other on the opposite sides twice in their career.

The first meeting came in the Lexington Challenger last season, where Brady beat Gauff in straight sets to reach the final and win the tournament.

Their second meeting was a doubles one in the WTA Abu Dhabi earlier this season. Brady, partnered with Garbine Muguruza, beat the pairing of Cori Gauff and Jessica Pegula.

Brady Survives Ferro Scare

Jennifer Brady started off with a straight-set win over Anastasija Sevastova but in the second round, she ran into a lot of resistance from the local favourite Fiona Ferro. The game lasted for a little over two hours and saw Brady take the game 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. It wasn’t the most clinical of the wins from the number 13 seed, who committed quite a few unforced errors.

But that is in the past now as the 26-year-old now looks to reach her first final on the tour since the Australian Open earlier this year.

Interestingly, her third-round appearance in the French Open has been her best run on clay this season. That win also marks her best run in Paris, seeing that she never made it past the second round in her last five appearances here.

In the preceding events in Madrid and Rome, she fell in the third round and second round respectively. In WTA Stuttgart, Brady fell right in the opener to Petra Kvitova. However, she did win the doubles title there with Ashleigh Barty.

Brady is certainly a star in the making but her lack of success and form on clay may prove to be problematic against Gauff, who has been thriving on this surface.

Gauff Maintains her Flawless Start in Paris

The 17-year-old Cori Gauff beat Qiang Wang in the second round with 6-3, 7-6(1) in an hour and 36 minutes. Despite winning the first set in style, Gauff fumbled a bit in the second set, committing 22 unforced errors in the process. However, she managed to win the tie-break and avoided a three-set affair.

Having delivered her best run in the tournament to date, Gauff will now look to replicate her title-winning run in WTA Parma last week where she won the singles and doubles titles. The motivation and the chance to do so is definitely high, given that she won the French Open title as a junior in 2018.

In the preceding tournament, Gauff reached the semifinal in the Italian Open, beating Maria Sakkari, Aryna Sabalenka, and Ash Barty on the way. Apart from this, she was also a semifinalist in Adelaide International.

It is on the back of these brilliant runs that she cracked the top 30 this season and by the looks of it, she will enter the top 20 fairly soon.

Gauff v Brady Prediction and Tip

Brady has the experience but not a lot of form on clay; Gauff is entirely on the opposite end of this spectrum with great form but low on experience. However, as she has proven on numerous occasions in the past, it is not a problem for her to beat the top guns and take any veteran head on.

This will be an entertaining affair, one that may go three sets.
