Tsitsipas Continues Consistent Form

22-year-old Stefanos Tsitipas has had a strong season thus far.  Starting the year with consecutive wins at the ATP Cup and a semi-final showing at the Aussie Open (defeating Rafa Nadal en route), Tsitsipas continued his strong run despite missing out on titles, notably at the ATP 500 final at Acupulco against Alexander Zverev.

The Greek’s strong run continued on clay where he won his first ever Masters 1000 at Monte Carlo as well as winning the ATP 250 in Lyon and being one point away from clinching the Barcelona ATP 500 final against Rafael Nadal.

Tsitsipas came to the French Open as third in line among favorites for the title behind Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic and has so far looked on course for a deep run.

The fifth seed played a good match overall after a difficult start in his opener against French veteran Jeremy Chardy and then followed it up with a clinical showing against Spaniard Pedro Martinez.

It was never going to be easy against the big serving American John Isner in the round of 32 and as expected it was not. Isner was off the blocks serving big and clinched the first set 7-5. There were some anxious moments in the second before the Greek broke and closed the set 6-3. The third set remained on serve before it went to the tie-break where Tsitsipas clinched an early minibreak and then did not look back to clinch the set.

The fourth set was Tsitsipas all the way dictating terms with Isner tiring and running out of weapons. The world number five clinched the set 6-1 and made the round of 16 at the French Open for the third consecutive time.

Carreno Busta Remains Proficient

World number 12 Pablo Carreno Busta had been in good touch since the return of the tour post-pandemic making the US Open semi-finals and the French Open quarterfinals in 2020. An unfortunate injury at the Aussie Open this year saw him out of action for most of the season till the clay swing.

The Spaniard did well to win at Marbella and make the semi-finals at Barcelona, but was setback a little by an early Madrid loss and an injury seeing him pull out against Kei Nishikori in Rome.

Carreno Busta with efficiency as always has made his way through the draw here this week at Roland Garros. Little known Enzo Couacaud from France did push him in the fourth round to four sets, but the number 12 ranked player came back strong against American Steve Johnson in the round of 32.

Carreno Busta put together a clinical performance from the very get-go to prevail 6-4,6-4,6-2 and seal a place in the fourth round against the inform Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas v Carreno Busta Prediction and Tip

Carreno Busta always bring a sense of calm, consistency and grit with him and that can be expected here as well. However, Tsitsipas has been in excellent touch all season long and has now got into his groove at Roland Garros as well. Expect a good contest but the Greek to prevail in three sets.
