Gauff Rams Past Jabeur

It took Gauff all of 55 minutes to get past Ons Jabeur in her fourth round match, registering an easy straight-set win to move into her first ever Grand Slam quarterfinal.

Such was the dominance of Gauff in the match, she did not face a single break-point over the two sets while herself breaking Jabeur four times of the 11 opportunities she got.

She was also aided, in no small way, by Jabeur’s unforced errors, which was 21 in number as compared to Gauff’s nine. Interestingly, Gauff also won 13 of the 17 points at net, pointing towards her all-round abilities.

Earlier in the tournament, Gauff had defeated Aliaksandra Krunic, Wang Qiang and Jennifer Brady, all of whom were sent packing without dropping a set. This was after she had reached the semifinal of the Italian Open and then won the title in Parma.

Can she now make it to her first ever semifinal in a Grand Slam?

Nine in a Row for Krejcikova

Krejcikova was at her career-best ranking of 33rd at the start of this competition and with a fourth round appearance last year at French Open, she would have needed to get to at least that round to ensure she tries and maintains her points.

As it has turned out, Krejcikova has already gone one better.

After starting out with a hard-fought victory over Kristyna Pliskova in round one, Krejcikova has surprised three successive opponents in straight sets.

She defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova, Elina Svitolina and Sloanve Stephens, dropped just 12 games and moved to the last eight for the first time at a Grand Slam. In fact, her previous best was a second round appearance which came at Australian Open earlier this season.

And the Czech now has a good chance to add to her nine successive wins on clay – which includes a title at Strasbourg just before this – but for that she will need to stall the progress of a precious teenager.

Gauff v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

Gauff is a 4/5 favourite to win this and the bookmakers are also expecting this to be a three-setter with odds of 5/4 for that to happen. Can Gauff live up to her top billing and can we also see a fighting three-setter?
