Felix Auger-Aliassime v Ugo Humbert Head to Head

There has been just one previous match played between these two players and incidentally that was also on grass, i.e. at the Wimbledon 2019 third round. Humbert won that in straight sets.

Auger-Aliassime Off To Positive Start

Felix Auger- Aliassime did not have the best of clay seasons and that could not have been good for his morale or confidence coming into the grass swing. He had a 4-6 win loss record on clay with a quarter-final appearance in Barcelona and unimpressive at most other venues including Roland Garros.

The Canadian had a good season on the grass in 2019 where he was a runner-up here to Matteo Berrettini, a semi-finalist at Queens and lost in the round of 32 at Wimbledon. Although comfortable on the grass, it remains to be seen how he progresses given he will still be recovering mentally from the disappointing clay season.

Auger-Aliassime had a difficult opening opponent after a first round bye, in South African Lloyd Harris, but came out strong in two tight sets. A testing second set which went to a tie-breaker, with the Canadian prevailing in the end would have been good for his confidence.

Going into a quarter-final with another fellow Next Gen Humbert, Auger- Aliassime will be hoping to keep the momentum from the previous round, keeping in mind that a good run here will help him plenty with match practice and belief in himself for the second half of the season.

Humbert Gaining In Confidence After Losing Streak

22-year-old Frenchman Ugo Humbert came into 2021 with plenty of promise having won two ATP titles and with belief and hope for a good season ahead. However, the first half of the year has been anything but encouraging for the Frenchman.

A none too impressive hard court and indoor season was followed by a clay season where he only won one match in six tournaments and came to the grass season looking to halt the streak.

It has been a better first two rounds for Humbert prevailing against Marton Fuscovics convincingly in the opener and then prevailing in a tight contest against Yannick Hanfmann.

The road gets more difficult hereon with the competition in store, but the Frenchman will take heart from his two victories and hope the results are better.

Auger-Aliassime v Humbert Prediction and Tip

Both players have been primed for greater things, but neither has had the best of runs in recent times.  Although Humbert did win their only meeting, at Wimbledon too, Auger-Aliassime has looked stronger on the grass and taken to it with more ease.

A close match ahead which will depend on whoever plays better on the day. Expect the Canadian to inch through in a three-setter.
