Donna Vekic v Francesca Jones Head to Head

There have been no previous meetings between Vekic and Jones.

Vekic Returns with 1-1 on Grass

After having made it as far as the fourth round at the Australian Open earlier this season, Vekic had to take a break from the game as she underwent surgery for her injured knee.

The Croat only returned back to the sport at the French Open, where as luck would have it, she was drawn against Karolina Pliskova in the first round. And while she did put up something of a fight in the first round, Vekic lost in straight sets.

Turning her attention to the Nottingham Open last week, Vekic registered a 7-5, 6-1 win over Leonie Kung in her opener – her first win since mid-February but then fell to Nina Stojanovic. She was a 3/10 favourite in that encounter but lost to a player who had started 14/5.

Fitness and rustiness are Vekic’s obvious concerns at the moment but it must be quickly added results weren’t quite going her way even before her fitness concerns had raised their head.

Jones Has Just One Win This Season

It had come very early in the season when Jones defeated Zheng Saisai in the first round at the Phillip Island Trophy in Melbourne but since that win, the Brit hasn’t won a match.

And even more recently as she turned her attention to the grass swing, Jones lost a one-set lead over Georgina Garcia-Perez to fall to a three-set defeat on the grass court of Nottingham.

That was Jones’ fourth match on grass spread across different competitions and she went on to lose to all four.

Interesting to see if she can get close to overturning her poor record on grass or if Vekic, despite her form and rustiness issues, could still get past the Brit.

Vekic v Jones Prediction and Tip

There is no surprise why Vekic is 1/4 to kick-start this competition and it’s to do with how lowly-ranked Jones is along with the fact she has struggles for form in recent times. Backing a straight-set win for the Croat here.
