Caroline Garcia v Harriet Dart Head to Head
No previous matches have been played between Garcia and Dart before this.
Garcia Has Two Grass Titles
The last season when Garcia took to court on grass was in 2019, like everyone else on the circuit and it was also the year she won her last WTA title. And it had come on grass, with the Frenchwoman winning the Nottingham Open.
Wins over Jennifer Brady and Donna Vekic in the semifinal and the final respectively came from Garcia being a set down in that tournament and that made it doubly sweet.
She also made the quarterfinal in Mallorca that season, another decent performance on grass but was shocked in the very first round at Wimbledon by Shuai Zhang who was 4/1 going into that match.
Garcia enters this tournament in Birmingham on the back of a mediocre 12-11 win-loss record for the season and with her best performances coming in two tournaments in which she won back to back matches. Can she kick-start the grass swing with a solid showing?
Dart Won Opener at Nottingham
Despite being ranked 143rd in the world at the moment and with a career-best of 121st, Dart will have the advantage of having already played two matches on grass this season.
The British player managed to make a successful switch over to grass with a first round win over fellow countrywoman Emma Raducanu in straight sets but then went down fighting to Lauren Davis.
Dart had won the first set against her American opponent but fell away in three sets to lose a golden and rare opportunity to win back to back matches on the WTA tour. In fact, in the whole of this season, Dart had won just one main draw match before the opening with in Nottingham.
She will now start with some more confidence than you would expect from a player who is ranked more than 80 places behind her opponent.
Garcia v Dart Prediction and Tip
This one might be end up being a straightforward one for Garcia who makes her return to grass after nearly 24 months. Expect her to start slow before catching on and scooping the match.
