Marie Bouzkova v Caroline Garcia Head to Head
This will be a first meeting between the World No. 50 Bouzkova and World No. 74 Garcia.
Bouzkova Bounces Back to Beat Hsieh
Czech Republic’s Marie Bouzkova fought back from a set down to defeat Taipei’s Hsieh Su wei in the first round of the Birmingham Open on Monday.
In a two-hour-and-one-minute contest, Bouzkova saved seven of nine break points and converted five of seven to win the contest 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
The win ended a five-match losing streak for the 22-year-old Czech, who had not won since clinching her first-round match at the Volvo Car Open against Timea Babos.
Since then she had lost in the second round in Charleston and her first matches in Stuttgart, Madrid, Roland Garros and Nottingham.
Bouzkova, who has very little experience of playing on grass, had a good start to the season, as she reached her second career final at the Phillip Island Trophy. But just like her first final in Monterrey in 2020, Bouzkova lost a close three-setter for a second runner-up finish.
It was Elina Svitolina who defeated her in Monterrey, while Daria Kasatkina lifted the Phillip Island Trophy.
Bouzkova also reached the semifinals in Guadalajara this year, before falling to Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Garcia Battles Past Dart
On Wednesday, Bouzkova will meet former World No. 4 Caroline Garcia, who battled past a determined Harriet Dart of Britain in the first round on Monday.
The 27-year-old Garcia had 14 break points in the match and she converted seven of them. Her opponent too had seven chances to break serve, and she capitalised on six of those chances, while Garcia saved one.
The two-hour-and-29-minute contest ended with Garcia winning 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in what was her first match on grass this season.
The Frenchwoman, who has seven titles and three runner-up finishes in her career, has won two titles on grass, winning the Mallorca Open in 2016 and the Nottingham Open in 2019.
Overall the World No. 74 improved to 13-11 in 2021. However, she has failed to go deep in tournaments, reaching just one quarterfinal (in Parma) from 11 tournaments.
Marie Bouzkova v Caroline Garcia Prediction and Tip
Both players are coming off tough wins and will look to carry the momentum into the next round. Garcia may have a slight edge as she is far more experienced on grass courts and was in better form in tournaments preceding the grass season. Expect a third set to decide the winner.
