Veronika Kudermetova v Liudmilla Samsonova Head to Head

Kudermetova Upsets Muchova in the Opener
The 24-year-old Russian made it to the second round in Berlin after upsetting the number 8 seed Karolina Muchova in the opener. She won that match 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-2 to set up the clash with her lesser-known adversary.
Kudermetova has had a pretty terrific season in 2021, having reached her career-best singles ranking as World No. 28. She has made it to two singles final this year while winning the title in one of them. That title run came in the Charleston Open where she beat Sloane Stephens, Danka Kovinic, among others to lift the first singles title of her career.
She was just as brilliant in Abu Dhabi too, where she beat Elina Svitolina en route to the final but ultimately fell to Aryna Sabalenka.
Even by her standards, Kudermetova was quite good in the clay swing too. She reached the third round in the Madrid Open and Italian Open after beating the likes of Kiki Bertens and Caroline Garcia. In the French Open, however, she fell in round two to Katerina Siniakova.

Samsonova Overcomes Vondrousova
Playing as a qualifier here in Berlin, the 22-year-old Samsonova moved past the Czech Marketa Vondrousova in the first round in straight sets. With this second-round appearance, the 106th ranked player will now look to move beyond and possibly, crack the top 100.
In all fairness, Samsonova has made some strides in the ranking, having moved up 24 places up since the start of the year. As a qualifier, she reached the second round in the Australian Open and later, the third round in the Miami Open (beating Camila Giorgi and Bertens on the way). The Russian had a similar stint in the WTA Parma too.
All things considered, consistency has never been a strong suit for Samsonova. With a majority of her runs this season ending in early exits, it is quite difficult for us to imagine her having a deep run in Berlin.
Kudermetova v Samsonova Prediction and Tip
Kudermetova will start as the favourite here, owing to her slightly superior form and overall pedigree. Expect her to breeze into the next round.
