Djokovic Begins Quest For Grand Slam #20

World number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic returns to Wimbledon with a lot going for him and a lot more at stake. The Serb who  won the Australian Open earlier this year, also won his 19th major title at Roland Garros earlier this month defeating 13-time-winner Rafa Nadal in the semi- final, and coming back from two sets to love down in the final against Stefanos Tsitsipas to cap off a remarkable five set win.

Djokovic starts as a heavy favorite at Wimbledon and a win here would tie him with both Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal for the all-time slam record at 20 majors each. Mumblings of going for the calendar slam and golden calendar slam (with the Tokyo Olympics around the corner) have already started to make the rounds.

The Serb is a five-time champion at the All England Club, and will always be remembered for the epic final against Federer in 2019, where he saved two championship points and came back to win the match 13-12 in the fifth after winning all three tiebreaks that day.

Djokovic has what looks like a more favorable draw than he did at Roland Garros, with Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas the primary threats to him in his half of the draw.

Draper Confident After Queens’ Club, But Uphill Task Ahead

19-year-old Jack Draper of Britain was the junior Wimbledon champion. He played his first ATP tour level match at the ATP Miami Masters 1000 earlier this year.

Draper has a 2-2 record on the tour, but was impressive at the Queens’ Club ATP 500 last week where he defeated Jannik Sinner and Alexander Bublik, before bowing out to compatriot Cameron Norrie in the quarter-finals.

This impressive performance at Queen’s Club earned him a wildcard to make his Grand Slam debut at none other Wimbledon and now the teenager will open proceedings against the defending champion Djokovic at Center Court on the first Monday of the tournament.

Draper currently has a career high ranking of world number 250, up 59 places after his run last week on the grass.

Djokovic v Draper Prediction and Tip

Britain’s Draper will be confident after his run at Queens’, but the magnitude of the opposition here is different to anything he has encountered at this level. Expect a straight sets win for the Serbian.
