Ekaterina Alexandrova v Laura Siegemund Head to Head

The only one match played between these two players earlier had gone in favour of Alexandrova. She defeated Siegemund in three tough sets at the 2019 Linz Open.

Alexandrova Makes Berlin Quarterfinals

In what was Alexandrova’s only tournament appearance on grass this season, she made it as far as the quarterfinal at German Open. And making that performance even more special was Alexandrova’s win over Elina Svitolina in the second round in that competition.

The Russian, who has gone past the first round at Wimbledon just once in her career, earlier defeated Anna Kalinskaya in her opener at Berlin before crashing into Svitolina’s party with a straight-set win.

She then fell to Belinda Bencic in a hard-fought three-setter, which should give her enough confidence going into this match as she tried to break a three-tournament opening round losing streak.

A word on Alexandrova’s form otherwise – while it’s not been the worst, the Russian might think she could have done better than the 17-13 win-loss record she has mustered up for the season. Can she make it past her fighting opponent in this opener?

Siegemund Also Coming off a Grass Quarterfinal

While Siegemund did not face opponents of the quality that Alexandova did when she took to court at Bad Homburg in her only tournament on grass, the German would take something out of her quarterfinal appearance in that competition.

Starting out with a three-set win over lucky loser Riya Bhatia, Siegemund then got past Tamara Korpatsch 6-2, 6-2 in the second round to seal her last eight berth.

It was Katerina Siniakova who finally took Siegemund out in her quarterfinal.

Interestingly, by winning these two matches in Bad Homburg, Siegemund managed to double her career win tally on grass, an indicator of her lack of comfort on this surface.

Which is why, coming up and winning against the seeded Alexandrova will be a tough ask.

Alexandrova v Siegemund Prediction and Tip

While we think Alexandrova is a favourite here, odds of 1/5 for her victory make it too short to consider. A games handicap in favour of Siegemund at +5.5 sounds like a good punt.
