Cirstea’s Grass Woes Continue in 2021

Despite been ranked 21st at one stage in her career, Cirstea’s record on grass has never been the best and that continues to haunt till this season. This has been one of the better years for Cirstea in recent memory and yet, come grass, she has stumbled yet again.

Cirstea, who had come into 2021 with one singles WTA title to her name, doubled her tally with another one in Istanbul earlier in April.

And since then, the Romanian has made it to the final at Strasbourg and the round of 16 at Roland-Garros to go with it. What happened after that has been par for the course for her.

She went into the German Open with an opening round encounter Garbine Muguruza and fell to a 6-3, 6-2 defeat. This was followed by Cirstea losing to Germany’s veteran player Andrea Petkovic in the opening round of Bad Homburg Open, with her opponent having come into the encounter at 2/1.

And now here at Wimbledon while Cirstea takes on a player ranked 230th in the world, there would be a certain amount of nervousness around the result.

Murray Sharan 0-4 This Year

British wildcard entrant Murray Sharan has played four matches this year across the ITF and WTA qualifiers and lost them all. Which is why a wildcard here for the 33-year-old might have been a cause for surprise for a few but here she is, looking to put it across a player who is herself struggling for form.

In fact right through her career, Murray has played just five matches at the WTA level and lost them all.

Her skills lie on the lower circuit where she has won four titles including one last year in a hard court tournament. What’s important to note, however, is Murray isn’t a pushover and has put up a price on her defeats – Marta Kostyuk was stretched to a 7-5, 6-3 win in their Eastbourne qualifier for instance.

And given how Cirstea has struggled on grass, we could be in for a fighting contest despite the obvious gulf in the experience at the highest level.

Cirstea v Murray Sharan Prediction and Tip

Cirstea, despite all her form issues on grass, is a favourite but isn’t 1/10 too narrow an odds for her win? We believe we could see Cirstea win but over 18.5 games in the contest at the same time.

Tip: Cirstea to win AND Over 18.5 games in the match: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
