Daria Kasatkina v Patricia Maria Tig Head to Head

The pair have met never before. This will be the first match between the 24 year old Russian, and the Romanian who is two years older.

Kasatkina Enjoying a Career Resurgence

In 2018, when she was Russian number one, Kasatkina made the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, eventually losing to Angelique Kerber, matching her performance at the French Open a month earlier.

They remain her best performances to date in Grand Slam tournaments.

After several years of indifferent form, Kasatkina has enjoyed a career renaissance in 2021, beginning in Australis, where she won the post Grand Slam event, the Phillip Island Trophy in Melbourne.

A month later she added the St. Petersburg Open to her trophy collection.

She reached the third round of the French Open before losing to the Romanian Sorana Cirstea, and then switched to grass, entering Birmingham, where she made another final, only to lose to Ons Jabeur.

Earlier this week in Eastbourne she beat Iga Świątek in the second d round, but her run was ended at the quarter-final stage by Jelena Ostapenko.

Tig’s Poor 2021 Form Continues

Tig’s only previous appearance in the main draw at Wimbledon was first round defeat in 2017.

The Romanian’s preferred surface is clay and it was on that surface she won her first senior WTA title last September, beating Eugenie Bouchard to win the Istanbul Cup, a year after she had lost in the final of her home event, the Bucharest Open.

The Romanian though has not been in good form this year. Since reaching the third round of the Phillip Island Trophy, she has not been beyond the second round of any event, including the French Open. There she was beaten by Naomi Osaka, before the Japanese pulled out of the tournament because of the controversy surrounding her refusal to do post-match media interviews.

Tig then entered the grass court event in Bad Homburg, Germany, last week, where she beat a local wildcard I the first round, before going down in three sets to the Argentina Nadia Podoroska.

Kasatkina v Tig Prediction and Tip

On paper, at least, this is a complete mis-match between the in-from Russian and the Romanian who has a poor record in 2021. Add into the mix Kasatkina’s superior ability on grass, and there should be only one winner.
