Jaume Munar v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head

Munar won their only previous meeting this year at Marbella, fighting back from a set down to win in three.

Munar Has a 0-5 Career Record on Grass

After being knocked out by Kyle Edmund in the first round of Wimbledon in 2019, Jaume Munar returns to All England Club with hopes of better returns this time around.

The Spaniard, 24, has never gone past the Round of 64 at a major, having reached that stage on four occasions with the most recent being at Roland Garros this year. Munar beat Jordan Thompson in the first round and lost to Reilly Opelka in the next. Both those matches at the French Open were four set affair.

Munar, who is 11-10 this year, reached a maiden ATP final at Marbella, beating Henri Laaksonen, Fabio Fognini, Ilya Ivashka and Carlos Alcaraz but couldn’t win a first title, going down to Pablo Carreno Busta in three.

He was also a semifinalist in Parma, losing to Marco Cecchinato, and a quarterfinalist at Buenos Aires.

He comes to Wimbledon having lost all five of his previous matches on grass and will be hoping to win a first on Tuesday.

Ivashka to Make Wimbledon Debut

On Tuesday, Munar will face Belarus’ Ilya Ivashka in the first round. The World No. 79 is 10-9 this year and he comes to Wimbledon well prepared, having played as many as 11 matches, including qualifiers, over the last few weeks on grass.

Ivashka began the grass court season in Stuttgart, winning one of two qualifiers and entering the main draw as a lucky loser. He was eventually beaten in the first round by Peter Gojowczyk.

At Halle, Ivashka won both his qualifying rounds, but fell to Roger Federer in the first round. He qualified for the main draw at Eastbourne as well and continued the winning momentum, defeating Alastair Gray and Alexei Popyrin in the first two rounds before losing to Soon-woo Kwon in the quarterfinals.

The 27-year-old had a pretty good clay season. The Belarusian reached the semifinals in Munich by defeating Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals, but fell to Jan Lennard Struff. He also made it to the quarterfinals in Marbella, where he was dumped out by Munar.

Ivashka, who has a career record of 4-4 on grass, will be making his Wimbledon debut on Tuesday. In his six previous main draw appearances at Grand Slams, he has reached the second round just once, at the Australian Open in 2019.

Munar v Ivashka Prediction and Tip

Ivashka will be better prepared, as he has played 11 matches on grass ahead of his Wimbledon debut, and one of those was against the legend, Roger Federer. Munar will be a bit nervous as he has played five and lost five on the surface so far. Expect a good contest, but Ivashka will hold the edge against the clay court specialist.
