Norrie Overcomes First-Set Deficit to Beat Pouille

British hope and No. 29 seed Cameron Norrie reached the second round at Wimbledon for the second time in his career after the 25-year-old overcame a first-set deficit to beat 2016 Wimbledon quarterfinalist Lucas Pouille on Wednesday.

The match that began on Tuesday, but got delayed due to bad weather, saw Norrie win 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 6-2, 7-5 in two hours and 45 minutes.

The British left-hander broke his opponent seven times while getting broken just thrice in the match. He also struck 35 winners, nine fewer than Pouille, but also made 16 fewer unforced errors to Pouille’s 46.

Yet to win a tour-level title, Norrie has four runner-up finishes in his career. He reached three finals this year at Estoril, Lyon and Queen’s but fell to Albert Ramos-Vinolas, Stefanos Tsitsi[as and Matteo Berrettini respectively.

In what’s turning out to be the best year of his career, Norrie improved to 30-13. He was also a semifinalist at Delray Beach and a quarterfinalist in Acapulco and Barcelona.

The Briton, however, has never gone beyond the third round of a Grand slam and made just one second round appearance at Wimbledon, falling to Kei Nishikori after winning the first round in 2019.

Bolt Beats Krajinovic

Australian wildcard Alex Bolt won his first match at Wimbledon, defeating Filip Krajinovic of Serbia in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday.

Ranked 149th in the world, the Australian needed two hours and six minutes to dispatch the World No. 44, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, 7-5.

The 28-year-old Bolt, who had lost in the first round at Wimbledon in his only other appearance in 2018, struck 41 winners and 21 unforced errors, while his opponent hit 36 winners and made 27 unforced errors. Bolt also had 12 break point chances, converting five of them, while the Serb had just three break points and he converted all three of them.

Mostly seen at the lower tier, Bolt has three Futures and three Challenger titles, winning the most recent of those at the Nottingham-2 Challenger earlier this month, where he defeated Kamil Majchrzak in the final.

At the Tour-level, Bolt is 3-2 in 2021, reaching the Round of 16 at Melbourne-2 and the second round at the Australian Open.

Norrie v Bolt Prediction and Tip

It’s been a dream year for Norrie and he would look to keep the form going in his home slam. Expect him to beat Bolt and advance to the third round for the first time at Wimbledon.
