Alize Cornet v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head

There have been three previous matches played between these two players and Cornet leads 2-1 on head to head. Cornet won their first meeting in 2013 at US Open before they met again in 2019 where Tomljanovic beat Cornet.

In their most recent meeting played earlier this year, Cornet overcame Tomljanovic in three sets.

Cornet Destroys Andreescu, Again

Less than a fortnight ago, Cornet had demolished Amanda Anisimova, Bianca Andreescu and Garbine Muguruza to make the semifinal of German Open.

Two weeks on, Cornet dished out the same dose to Andreescu, routing the former US Open winner 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and 23 minutes, to reach the second round.

It wasn’t a straightforward win either, because Cornet faced six break-points in the encounter but saved each one of them. In reply, the Frenchwoman broke Andreescu five times, two times in the first and three in the second set.

Cornet, whose best performance at a Grand Slam is a fourth round appearance – and she has made it till there at every major – will have a golden chance to do one better this time. She has good form and a relatively easier draw now by her side.

Tomljanovic Sends Greet a Goodbye

Needing to win three qualifying rounds and doing that in straight sets, Greet Minnen would have felt good about herself going up against Tomljanovic. The Aussie, however, carved out a straight-set win over Minnen to make the second round at Wimbledon for the third time.

She has never gone past that mark, however, and facing up to an unseeded and world number 58 player, Tomljanovic might give herself more than a fleeting chance to come through.

To do that, she would need to play as well as she did in the first round though where she slammed 21 winners and made just 16 unforced errors. She also broke her opponent four times, and while the Aussie was broken two times in return, that wasn’t enough to turn the match in Minnen’s favour.

Minnen’s best chance came at 5-5 in the second set when she got six break-points but didn’t convert a single one, following which Tomljanovic finished off the match off her third match-point.

Cornet v Tomljanovic Prediction and Tip

Under normal circumstances this would have been an evenly-contested match but given Cornet’s form, she could be a runaway winner here. Straight sets.
